Guimarães, the first capital of Portugal, is a historically rich city in northern Portugal with approximately 158,000 residents. It was the birthplace of Dom Afonso I, the first king. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it boasts significant landmarks like the 10th-century castle and the chapel of São Miguel. Accessible by train, bus, and car, Guimarães also features the Sanctuary da Penha with stunning views.

The day began with very heavy rain, which lasted for several hours. There was also a stormy wind. After about 8 km, there were no more markings at a crossroads.

It took me just over 2 hours to cover the 4 km, as the path was criss-crossed by rivers and streams. You had to be careful not to go swimming.

A long stage of 37.5 km with beautiful landscapes, through roads, country lanes and road sections. Today is characterized by the ascent to Padornelo (1,365 m) with 360 metres of altitude difference over 9 kilometers.

Today's stage was 25.5 km long. The weather was not so good, it rained for several hours and my shoes were as wet as in a swimming pool.
