Short History of Estrela da Amadora

CF Estrela da Amadora was founded in 1932. It is a Portuguese soccer club from Amadora. The club experienced a remarkable resurrection after going bankrupt in 2011. It was reestablished in 2020. Its greatest success was winning the Portuguese Cup in 1990. After mergers, the club has been playing in the top division, the Primeira Liga, again since 2023.

Foundation and golden era (1932–2000): The club was founded on January 22, 1932. It established itself as an integral part of Portuguese football. Its greatest success came in 1990 with the win of the Taça de Portugal. Between 1988 and 2009, the club played a total of 16 seasons in the first division.

Crisis and insolvency (2000–2011): Financial problems led to a dramatic decline. After being relegated from the first division in 2009, the club was dissolved in 2011 due to excessive debt.

New beginning and merger (2011–2020): In the meantime, the club only existed in the youth sector. In the summer of 2020, the successor club Clube Desportivo Estrela da Amadora underwent a significant change. It merged with third division club Club Sintra Football. They formed the new club Football Estrela da Amadora.

Return to professional football (2020–now): After its reestablishment, the club quickly rose through the ranks. It advanced from the third division to the Segunda Liga in 2021. After a relegation match against Marítimo Funchal in 2023, it finally returned to the Primeira Liga.

Home ground: The club plays its home games at Estádio José Gomes, which was completed in 1957.

The club has made a comeback. This is due to a successful reorientation and investments. It is now an established force in Portuguese professional soccer.

The main title in the history of
CF Estrela da Amadora is the Portuguese Cup, won in the 1989/1990 season. The team beat Farense 2-0 in the final, with goals from Paulo Bento and Ricardo Lopes.

The Estádio José Gomes, was inaugurated in 1957 in Amadora, Portugal. It serves as the home ground for the football club C.F. Estrela da Amadora and has a capacity of 9,288 spectators. Named after its architect, the stadium hosted the first leg of the 1990 Supertaça and the 2009 Jogos da Lusofonia.

New Stadium: The administration (Paulo Lopo) has revealed plans for a new stadium. It will have a capacity for around 12,000 people. The stadium will be integrated into the city and functional every day of the week.

Transport: The stadium is served by the Reboleira train and metro station (Sintra Line and Lisbon Metro Blue Line). This facilitates access from Lisbon or Sintra.

Accessibility: The venue has wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking.

Parking: Parking next to the stadium is limited. It is recommended to use public transport. Alternatively, park in the surrounding areas of Reboleira and Venteira.
